Electric Fencing for Pigs

Electric fencing is used for the containent of pigs within a set area.

This can be a permanent shared enclosure on a large scale or smaller areas that contain a pig sty. Pig can be a very good tool for clearing ground that have become overgrown and they can be moved every days to clear large areas.

Really there are two types of electric fencing for pigs:

Permanent Electric Fencing for Pigs:

Used round wooden posts is a great way to create a pig enclosure that is going to stay in one place. Wooden provide strength to strain the fence wire so it is taught and cannot be pentrated. A system can be created with screw in ring insulators, wire corner insulators, gate anchors, gate handles and stranded wire. Generally stranded wire is preferred over the use of poly wire for pigs due to its strength with poly wires potential to lose power once mud is attached to it from the pigs. Generally 2 lines is sufficient to contains pigs but up to 3 can be used especially dealing with animals prone too escape.

Temporary Electric Fencing for Pigs:

If your fencing will be moving more regularly we would recommend using a reel system with mounting post and 3ft plastic posts and stranded wire. A temporary gate can be made with spring gate kits to allow you access to the pen. Using a reel kit allows you to wind and un-wind the wire quickly and carry it in one go. If moving small distances to rotate the ground you can simply move the plastic posts over one at the time to shift the pig pen area. When choosing an energiser for an electric fence it is important to use a unit that is going to generate a good amount of voltage on the line of over 4,000 volts on the fence so it is respected. It is also important to choose an energiser unit that is reliable as pigs are very clever animals and can detect if a fence is not working to push the fence over. Once escaped pigs can cause alot of damage to property so it is important to invest in an energiser that you can rely on to work.
